US President Trump sacks Defense Secretary, Mark Esper

Mark Esper has been sacked by the United States President Donald Trump as the Defense Secretary.

Trump made the announcement on Monday in the midst of his legal challenge against Joe Biden’s election.

According to Trump, Christopher C. Miller, director of the National Counterterrorism Centre, will be acting secretary of defense.

The appointment is effective immediately.

“Chris will do a great job! Mark Esper has been terminated. I would like to thank him for his service”, the President tweeted.

Recall that Esper was Trump’s second permanent Defense Secretary after James Mattis.

The retired General of the US Marine Corps resigned in late 2018.
