Just few days after the police headquarters in Owerri was attacked, unknown gunmen have again at the early hours of Thursday attacked the Mbieri Police Division in Imo State.
SP Orlando Ikeokwu, the command’s spokesman, confirmed the attack to newsmen in Owerri on Thursday, NAN reports.
According to him, officers of the Division repelled the bandits after a gun battle, preventing them from carrying out their dastardly act.
Ikeokwu said two police officers sustained injuries in the process and were currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
He stated that no officer was abducted in the attack and no loss of arms as well.
Recall that it was not only the police headquarters and the one at Mbieri that has been attacked in recent time, the Isiala-Mbano Police Division, Ehime-Mbano, Obowo, Ihite-Uboma have also been invaded by gunmen.
The latest attack, brings the number of police stations that have been hit in the state between January and April to six.
