South Africa’s rate of infections and deaths from COVID-19 has continued to be on the high. On Wednesday alone it recorded 572 coronavirus deaths in a single day.
Zweli Mkhize, the country’s Health Minister, made the disclosure on his Twitter page, of which he put the total number of COVID-19 fatalities as 5,940.
According to him, “Regrettably, we report 572 new COVID-19 related deaths. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 5,940.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased.
“The number of recoveries currently stand at 229, 195 which translates to a recovery rate of 58%,”.
At present, South Africa is the worst hit in Africa, with a total of 394,948 infections.
While Nigeria on the other hand has a total of 38,344 confirmed infections and 813 deaths.
