Saraki reacts to Petitioners claim of being tortured to implicate him in Offa robbery

Bukola Saraki, the Former Senate President, has reacted to revelations that he was wrongly implicated in the Offa robbery saga.

Saraki who is also former Kwara Governor expressed excitement via his Twitter account.

“Alhamdulillah! Like light, the truth will ALWAYS come out!”, he tweeted.

On Wednesday, two petitioners at the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on End SARS in Ilorin, Kwara State, said operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) tortured them to implicate Saraki.

Recall that the Offa robbery incident occurred on April 5, 2018.

They alleged that the officers told them to state that Saraki bought guns for them.

In their petition, Kehinde Gobir and Shuaib Jawando recalled that they spent over 73 days in police detention in Ilorin and Abuja.

They denied being used by Saraki for criminal activities, adding that they were only his political supporters.

The petitioners accused SARS of confiscating their two Toyota Corolla cars and mobile phones.

They further alleged that the police personnel collected N250, 000 before they were granted bail.

Gobir and Jawando appealed to the panel “to intervene swiftly to this situation by returning our property as this action is tantamount to infringement on the fundamental human rights to be enjoyed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

“We did not participate in any crime nor involve in any Offa robbery killing or having any criminal records whatsoever as being wrongfully alleged by the SARS officers. We urge the panel to do the needful by facilitating the quick recovery of our property.”

Police counsel, Adekunle Iwalaye, urged the panel to dismiss the petitions.

The chairman, retired Justice Tunde Garba, adjourned the matter until January 13, 2021.
