Ronaldo blamed for Juventus’s Champions League exit

Alessandro Del Piero, the Juventus legend, has slammed forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, over his performance against FC Porto in the Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie on Tuesday night.

Juventus lost 2-1 in the first-leg in Portugal and went 1-0 down early on in Turin.

However, Federico Chiesa replied with a brace, and Mehdi Taremi was sent off for Porto to put Andrea Pirlo’s side firmly in the driving seat.

However, the Serie A champions were stunned late in extra time when Sergio Oliveira’s free-kick beat Wojciech Szczesny to end Juventus’s dreams of Champions League glory for another year.

In his reaction, Del Piero said Ronaldo must take some blame for Juventus’s exit, adding that the Portugal international wasted the header that should have given the host advantage of qualifying for the next round.

“Cristiano must take some blame, of course,” Del Piero said as quoted by Sport bible after the game.

“He did not have many chances, but he wasted that header that we should have taken advantage of.”
