Rangnick discloses why he dropped Ronaldo against Aston Villa in FA Cup game
Ralf Rangnick, the Manchester United interim manager, has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of the squad to face Aston Villa because of a muscle complaint.
Ronaldo is one of the notable absentees, as the Red Devils face Steven Gerrard’s men in the FA Cup third round on Monday.
A minor calf injury also sidelines Phil Jones after a strong performance against Wolves last week in the Premier League.
In total there’s four changes from the defeat to Wolves, with Victor Lindelof fit to return in defence alongside the restored Diogo Dalot, Fred preferred to Nemanja Matic in midfield and Bruno Fernandes making his first start since his return from suspension.
Marcus Rashford also gets the nod over Jadon Sancho, who is another to miss out on the squad.
