Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s President, has tested positive for COVID-19, his office announced on Tuesday.
There has been a lot of speculation about Tebboune’s health, after he was hospitalized in Germany, following cases of coronavirus among his staff.
The statement stated that the 74-year-old “continues to receive treatment in a specialised German hospital after catching the COVID-19 illness.
“The medical team is reassured that the president is responding to treatment and gradually recovering.”
Tebboune was earlier in an Algerian hospital but have been transferred to Germany last week, days after going into self-isolation.
Algeria has witnessed resurgence in COVID-19 infections in recent weeks.
On Tuesday alone, the North African recorded 405 new cases along with nine deaths.
