Police reveals how 21 Army recruitment applicants died in Jigawa accident
The Jigawa state Police command has revealed how the 21 persons lost their lives in the state.
ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Spokesman of the Command, disclosed to newsmen that they died after a bridge collapsed in Gwaram Local Government Area.
ASP Adam explained that the incident happened on Sunday at about 6:00 am, when a Hummer bus with registration number FYK 406 ZA carrying 18 passengers from Kano to Adamawa and an unregistered lorry conveying three passengers fell into a collapsed bridge covered by floodwater.
Adam said all victims were evacuated to Basirka hospital and were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He, however, said only one person identified as Simon Chinapi survived the accident with a leg fracture.
An eyewitness who is also the Chairman State Civil Society forum, Musbahu Basirka, said the bridge collapsed following a heavy downpour that flooded and covered the area.
He said all the 21 passengers died on the spot.
They include 11 disqualified military recruitment applicants and nine other passengers.
