Pochettino reacts after PSG’s elimination of Bayern Munich
Mauricio Pochettino, the Paris Saint-Germain manager, has described his players, including Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Angel Di Maria, as ‘geniuses’ after they eliminated Bayern Munich from the Champions League this season.
PSG had won Bayern 3-2 in the Champions League quarter-final first-leg tie last week in Germany.
However, the French Ligue 1 champions were defeated 1-0 on Tuesday night in Paris but qualified for the semi-finals on an away goal rule after a 3-3 aggregate result.
PSG will now face either Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City in the last-4.
In his reaction, Pochettino told BT Sport after the game, “The quality is there, and they work so hard.
“Our job is to try to put these types of talents, they are geniuses, to work like a team.
“With the ball, they are, of course, fantastic.
“To feel that we are a team, that is the challenge for us, and at the moment, we are so happy about that.”
Pochettino added, “It was a really tough match, and I am really happy because the players deserve the credit. We are so happy for them, the club, the president.
“After three months working here, we are enjoying the moment, and if you qualify for the semi-finals, then this is an amazing moment for us.
“When you are on the touchline, close to the pitch, it is not easy to enjoy it, but I try to enjoy it every time.
“I am calm on the outside, but inside you are dealing with the stress of the competition, but that is the adrenaline of it that you love to feel and tonight was a fantastic game.”
