Owerri prison inmate escapee burnt to death in his community
Iho town in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State has come to limelight after one of those who escaped from Owerri Correctional Centre was burnt to death by angry youths who took out their anger on the unnamed escaped young man after he came back to threaten the person he accused of causing his jail term.
Our correspondent gathered that the fleeing inmate was involved in a serious altercation with the person he accused of causing his many years of serving in jail, which prompted the intervention of youths who immediately eliminated him by setting him on fire.
Recall that unknown gunmen on Monday, attacked the correctional centre in Owerri, the state capital, set the facility ablaze and freed over 1,844 inmates.
Meanwhile, there was a show of force by the military on Monday in Owerri as our correspondent witnessed their massive patrol along Orlu and Okigwe roads.
Also the Imo State police command said on Thursday that they have started the deployment of no fewer than 1000 officers to strategic places and security facilities in the state.
