Nigeria govt releases names, pictures of fleeing Owerri prison inmates
The names and photos of some of the inmates who escaped during a jailbreak in Owerri, Imo State capital have been released by the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Recall the police headquarters in Owerri and the state Correctional Centre were recently attacked and over 1000 prisoners freed.
Specifically, when the gunmen attacked the state police command headquarters about 600 suspects were freed from the cells.
It was gathered that as at Wednesday, the NCoS on its website disclosed that a total of 84 inmates were back in custody. It said the figure included those who did not flee in the first place, those recaptured, those who voluntarily returned, and those returned by their relations, traditional rulers and religious leaders.
In fact, before going to the press more than 1,700 inmates were still on the run.
On Friday, the NCoS published on its Twitter handle the names and pictures of 36 of the fleeing names.
