Navy apprehends Nigerians hiding inside Europe-bound vessel
Five Nigerians onboard MT JANE vessel at the Lagos anchorage have been arrested by the Nigerian Navy.
The stowaways had the intention of risking it all by travelling to Europe in unsafe conditions.
The Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Commodore Bashir Mohammed announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday.
The senior officer said the suspects entered the ship through its rudder compartment.
Mohammed disclosed that the NNS BEECROFT patrol team uncovered them during routine harbour surveillance.
The commodore quoted the citizens confessing that they wanted to go to Europe in search of greener pastures.
“The suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution”, he said.
Mohammed hailed the NNS guards for their vigilance and advised Nigerians to always follow due process for migration to avoid endangering their lives.
