It has been revealed that Mikel Arteta is needed by Manchester City to replace Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
The Citizens are monitoring Mikel Arteta’s situation at Arsenal with the Gunners yet to extend contract of the former midfielder.
The Spaniard’s current deal will run till the end of next season, the same period as Guardiola’s.
The Premier League leaders, according to The Athletic, are looking forward to replace Guardiola with his former assistant at Man City, Arteta.
The 39-year-old swapped Manchester City for the Arsenal two years ago to take his first steps into management.
Before joining Arsenal, Arteta was seen as a long-term option to succeed Guardiola.
And City have maintained their interest in him since his move south, according to the report.
