Kwara fire service rescues train from fire disaster at Offa
A burning Northern bound train set ablaze by a yet to be identified person has been rescued by the Kwara State fire service, on Monday.
It was gathered that the train, which had a stopover at the Offa railway station, was heading to the northern part of the country from Lagos.
Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the spokesman of the fire service, disclosed this in a statement in Ilorin on Wednesday.
He said the state incident occurred at about 17.15hours during a stopover at Offa railway station in Offa Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, out of the 15 coaches carried by the train, only two were seriously burnt..
The timely rescue of the firemen saved the train from being consumed by the inferno.
Hassan, said the DPO of Offa railway station, Ekemonde Oluwafemi, called the attention of the fire brigade to the incident.
Director, state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged members of the public not to hesitate to call the brigade whenever there is an emergency in their areas.
He said it will go a long way to save the lives and properties of the people in the state.
