Imo government denies collecting environmental levy

The Imo State Government through the State Commissioner for Petroleum and Environment, Iyke Njoku, has denied the rumour making the rounds that it is currently collecting money from residents as environmental levy.
The Commissioner who spoke through his media aide, Bright Eluagu, urged the people resident in Imo to beware of unscrupulous persons extorting money from the public.
Speaking further, he said the extortionists claimed they were officials of the ministry.
According to him, “such persons do not represent the Ministry of Petroleum and Environment but are rather agents of retrogression with the intent to sabotage the efforts of the government.
“Law enforcement agencies have been directed to arrest anyone who engages in this illegal act,”.
