Gunmen hit Rivers State as Police confirm attack on security agents
The Police Command in Rivers State has confirmed an attack on security agents by unknown gunmen in Ikwerre local government area of the state.
It was gathered that unknown gunmen had around midnight on Saturday, attacked a military checkpoint in Omagwa community as well as a roadblock by men of the Nigeria Customs Service in Isiokpo community and reportedly killed three officers.
The attackers also set some vehicles in the area ablaze.
Confirming the attack in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni said the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has ordered an investigation into the incident.
The statement, however, did not confirm the number of casualties in the incident, details of which the police PRO said are still sketchy.
The statement read “I can confirm the attack on security personnel along the Omagwa/Isiokpo/Elele Owerri Road. Details sketchy.
“The CP has launched a full-scale investigation into the dastardly attack with a view to arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
“Meanwhile, the area is calm with reinforced and increased joint Patrols of that stretch and other areas in the state by the security Agencies.
“So far, the state is calm and secure and no cause for alarm.”
