Government of Kogi sets date for shutting down of all unregistered schools
The Nigeria’s North Central State of Kogi has vowed to shut down all unregistered schools in the state at the resumption of the 2021/2022 academic session.
Wemi Ojo Jones, the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, disclosed this on Thursday while fielding questions from newsmen.
According to him, allowing unregistered schools to operate in the state would amount to mortgaging the future of the children.
Jones equally disclosed that schools that are having the required facilities and decent environment but are not registered would be given three years to register by the Ministry of Education, after which they will be shut down if the fail to meet the conditions give to them for registration.
The Commissioner urged both the registered and unregistered schools to come to the Ministry to authenticate their papers following which an inspection would be conducted to the schools by the ministry.
While pointing out that the State Government is passionate about shutting down of unregistered schools, the Commissioner said the government will not fold its hands and watch substandard schools operating in the state.
The Commissioner maintained that the State Government would not allow people run their business at the detriment of the state future Leaders, urging operators of unregistered and illegal schools to cease the window of opportunity to register their schools before the commencement of the new academic session.
