Government of Abia announces December 18 as public holiday, gives reason

The Government of Abia State has declared Friday, December 18, 2020, a public holiday due to the forthcoming local government elections holding in the state.

Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia state Honorable Commissioner for Information, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

The Commissioner further explained that movement of persons and goods shall be restricted within the state from midnight of Thursday, 17th December, 2020.

Kalu also made it clear that only staff of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), security agents, media practitioners and others on essential duties will be exempted from the restrictions.

He also urged citizens and visitors to ensure that they maintain peace, law and order before, during and after the election.
