FUTO gets first ever female Vice Chancellor to succeed incumbent Prof Eze
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) Governing Council has elected Prof Nnenna Oti as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.
The newly elected VC will succeed the outgoing one, Prof. Francis Eze.
Before her emergence to the present position, Prof. Oti was the deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic.
She came top with 75.5 points to beat six other candidates.
Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie was her closest rival and he scored 69.7 points.
The person who announced her appointment was the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. John Offem and this was made known to the public after a day-long selection and interview of the seven candidates that scaled through the initial selection process.
Prof. Offem disclosed that there were a total of 29 applications at the initial stage and only seven emerged after final selection.

Her emergence is historic, in the sense that she will be the first ever female VC since the inception of FUTO.
Prof. Mrs. Oti has also served as the Dean of Post-Graduate School of FUTO, a position in which she obviously distinguished herself as a professor of note.
She graduated with First Class Honours in Soil Science in 1982 from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). She further obtained her M.Sc. in Soil Microbiology/Biochemistry in 1986, still from UNN.
She later bagged PGD in Irrigation Engineering (Distinction) 1987 from the notable Katholieke University, Leuven (KUL) Belgium; later proceeded for her Ph.D in Soil/Environmental Control in FUTO, in 2002.
Prof. Oti obtained the NUC–Best Ph.D Award [NUDTAS] in 2002. She served as a Member of the 2014 National Confab. She has these honours to her credit: FSSSN; MASN; MSSSA; MCSSA; MASA; JP.
Prof. Nnenna Oti, who hails from Afikpo, Ebonyi State, is a highly seasoned, versatile and accomplished scholar.
Come June 2021, Prof. Oti would be succeeding the 7th Substantive VC, Prof. Eze whose leadership prowess, in the area of academics and human development, has thus far been commended by all and sundry.
