The Austin Chilakpu led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress has broken their silence, denouncing the newly formed faction which is backed by the state government.
Their first reaction is coming many days after the inauguration of the Uchehara led faction which claimed to have replaced them.
In a statement in Owerri on Thursday, which was signed by Chilakpu and other executive members of his group, it stated that the strike it called before the crises was still on.
It further called all the workers in the state to ignore the antics of the new group and continue to support the efforts being made to force the government to pay all civil servants and pensioners who are yet to receive their salaries and pensions.
Meanwhile, in a press conference in Owerri, the Commissioner for information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said Chilakpu was the greatest enemy of Imo workers, adding that he was actually disconnected with many affiliate unions of the congress that never had confidence in his leadership.
Emelumba also accused him of being sponsored by opposition politicians in the State.
Recall that the new leadership of Imo NLC suddenly emerged early in the week, just after the organised labour in the state issued a strike notice, which was to have commenced on Monday.
