Alex Iwobi who was recently unexpectedly transferred from Arsenal to Everton immediately after featuring for Nigeria during the African Cup of Nations Tournament in Egypt, has scored his first goal in Everton shirt.
As a matter of fact, Iwobi opened his Everton account with a goal in a 4-2 victory over Lincoln City in Wednesday’s League Cup fixture.
The game was the former Arsenal man’s first start after his summer switch to Goodison Park for £40 million ($49m) on a five-year deal.
Recall that the Nigerian forward had already lost in his debut, when he came in for Gylfi Sigurdsson in the 61st minute as Marco Silva’s side crumbled 2-0 to Aston Villa in the Premier League on the weekend
But, the Super Eagles player, again discovered his goal scoring form in the second round League Cup encounter at Sincil Bank.
The two teams were playing 2-2, following Bruno Andrade cancellation of Sigurdsson’s earlier goal, when suddenly Iwobi through a header in the 81st minute made it 3-2, before Richarlison sealed victory with the fourth goal.
With the win Everton secured a berth in the third round of the league cup.
The Nigerian international was very happy to have finally opened his account for Everton. In his reaction he said, “It was a difficult game. Credit to Lincoln. The important thing is we’re through. We showed our fighting spirit. I’m enjoying this new chapter of my life. Every competition we take seriously.”
