It was a black day for people of Narayanganj’s Fatullah in Bangladesh, after six air-conditioners exploded at a mosque there, killing at least 11 people.
The number of persons who sustained burn injuries in the explosions that happened around 9 pm on Friday is about 50 Muslim worshippers, Dhaka Tribune reported.
Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) burns unit, while speaking to reporters on Saturday, said, “None of the hospitalised after the incident is out of danger yet,”
One of the officials revealed that a pipeline of Titas Gas passes beneath the mosque. He suspected: “Gas had leaked from the pipeline and accumulated inside as the windows were closed.”
The official according to the report said that the explosion was probably triggered due to sparks when someone tried to switch on or off the ACs or fan.
It was at the time the Muslim worshippers were about to end their Isha prayers that the explosion took place.
“Most of the victims have burns covering 60 to 70 per cent of their bodies,” Dhaka Tribune quote Fatullah police station OC Aslam Hossain as saying.
