Juventus out of the Champions League again as their aim of signing Cristiano Ronaldo hits the rock.
Ronaldo was basically signed from Real Madrid to help the Italian champions claim Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
But on Tuesday Juventus fans around the globe were disappointed because apart from an assist for Federico Chiesa’s first goal and missing a couple of chances that would have helped them bury the match, Ronaldo was noticeably silenced throughout the duration.
The Old Lady was frustrated by ten-man Porto, who have now booked their place in the quarter final.
Porto made it to the quarter-finals after a dramatic match that went to extra time.
The Portuguese side opened the scoring after 19 minutes with Sergio Oliveira firing in from the spot.
Federico Chiesa equalised for the home side 4 minutes into the second half with a curling shot from a tight angle down the left flank.
Porto had Mehdi Taremi sent off in the 54th minute after a second yellow card for kicking the ball away in frustration.
The Italian champions scored their second goal in the 63rd minute with Chiesa’s heading in.
With both sides now 3-3 on aggregate, the game went to extra-time and the Portugal champions netted a second away goal with Oliveira’s brilliant free-kick after 115 minutes.
Adrien Rabiot pulled one back for Adrian Pirlo’s men two minutes later with a header but the Italian champions did not have the time for a late shocker.
Ronaldo has now been eliminated from the competition in the Round of 16 for the second time since joining the club.
The Portuguese may not want to continue playing in Italy next season, adding to the fact that Pirlo’s men are currently 10 points behinds Inter Milan in the race for the Serie A title.
